When Is Dental Bonding Used?
If you have chipped or cracked teeth, you may be a candidate for bonding. Dental bonding is a procedure that is used for tooth structural reasons as well as cosmetic. It can be used to restore decayed teeth and correct crooked teeth. Bonding can change the color of your teeth or its shape making it ideal for repairing chipped teeth.
Dental bonding covers natural flaws with an application of a thin coating of plastic resin material to the surface of your teeth. The resin is colored to match your other teeth and shaped to restore the look of your original tooth making its application virtually unnoticeable. The resin is hardened with a high-intensity light and finely polished.
Though dental bonding is great for such applications, it is not a permanent solution since it lasts about 7 to 11 years before it may require replacement. Also since the bonding material is porous, smokers may experience yellowing of their bonding.

ADVANTAGES OF DENTAL BONDING
Dental bonding can substitute for silver fillings. Because healthy tooth structure is generally removed to help secure silver filling in its place, only the decayed portion of your teeth need to be removed before applying bonding resin since the resin adheres directly to the tooth. Bonded material can be colored to match your existing teeth. Bonding can last longer than silver filling.
DISADVANTAGES OF DENTAL BONDING
The initial cost of bonding is higher than silver fillings.
